WEB RUMORS

Web Rumors is the new-wave style electronic project of Em Burrows. Her music incorporates influences from early underground dance styles such as EBM, proto-house, and post-disco through to 1980s pop and British folk music.

Burrows has released 3 full length albums, 2 EPs and numerous singles under the Web Rumors moniker. Her debut album Audio Video Disco was released in 2019 through Group Therapy Records and featured the come-down heater of that summer, ’Sinner for Your Love’. Follow up LP New Tricks (2021) was described as “Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark meets Austra” with electronic foundations and elements of baroque pop bound adroitly by highly accomplished composition. Later releases saw a left-turn into dance music with self-produced EPs Disciple and Disciple 2 channelling proto-house and electro sounds. Her first single from this body of work,  “House of Yes” was described by a listener as being, “Like Paul Hardcastle, Sylvester, and The KLF jamming the Outrun soundtrack on a beach in Goa.” Her most recent album, Travelling Circuits, draws on folk song material, recontextualised with new wave/electronic sounds. “The influence of 80s synthop is all over these bewitching songs from Burrows, recalling peak Marianne Faithfull”  - Bandcamp

Web Rumors’ tightly spun songs have been included in Spotify editorial playlists and Bandcamp features as well as numerous blogs and publications such as New Noise, White Light/White Heat and Something You Said. Burrows is a WAMi nominated artist (Best Keys/Synth Artist 2020, Golden WAMi 2022) and Web Rumors’ performances of note have included Laneway Festival Fremantle (2019), Nannup Festival (2019), Perth Festival (2019), and RTRFM’s In the Pines (2018, 2023).

Em continues to work on new music including more dance sounds, big pop ballads and further folktronic offerings.
